Dental Extractions

Gentle & Surgical Extractions in Aventura, FL

The Path To Relief

At BOND Aesthetic, our primary goal is always to save natural teeth. However, there are times when a tooth is compromised beyond repair, and keeping it poses a greater risk to your health than removing it.

We understand that the thought of an extraction can be anxiety-inducing. That is why we have replaced the old-school "yank and pull" mentality with atraumatic techniques. We view an extraction not as an end, but as the first step toward infection control, pain relief, and preparing the site for a future, stronger replacement.

Removing The Obstacle

Modern extraction therapy is categorized by complexity, yet both approaches prioritize your comfort and tissue preservation.

  • Simple Extractions: Performed on teeth that are fully visible above the gum line. We gently loosen the tooth from the socket and lift it out.

  • Surgical Extractions: Required when a tooth has broken off at the gum line or has not fully erupted (like many wisdom teeth). This involves making a small incision and sometimes dividing the tooth into sections to remove it safely with minimal disturbance to the surrounding bone.

When Is An Extraction Necessary?

This procedure is recommended when restoration is no longer viable or when the tooth threatens the health of the rest of the mouth. Common scenarios include:

  • Impacted Wisdom Teeth: Third molars that are stuck beneath the gums, causing pain, crowding, or damage to adjacent molars.

  • Severe Decay: When a cavity has reached the root and structure is too compromised for a crown or root canal.

  • Trauma: A vertical root fracture or crack that extends below the bone level.

  • Orthodontic Strategy: Removing specific teeth to create space for aligning a crowded smile (often before braces or Invisalign).

  • Stubborn Infection: Removing a source of chronic abscesses that could spread bacteria to the body.

The Extraction Process

We utilize sedation and precision instruments to ensure your experience is calm and the recovery is swift.

  1. 3D Imaging: We use CBCT scans to visualize the exact position of the roots and their proximity to nerves or sinuses. This allows us to plan a safe exit path for the tooth.

  2. Total Numbness: We use potent local anesthetics and offer sedation options (like nitrous oxide or IV sedation) so you remain relaxed or asleep.

  3. Atraumatic Removal: We use specialized instruments to "elevate" the tooth gently rather than using excessive force. This protects the delicate jawbone walls, which is critical for future implants.

  4. Site Care: We thoroughly clean the socket to remove infection and often place a collagen plug or bone graft to jumpstart healing.

Why BOND Aesthetic?

We treat extractions as a delicate surgery, not a brute-force event.

  • Bone Preservation: We use techniques specifically designed to save the surrounding bone, ensuring you have a solid foundation for a future implant.

  • Wisdom Tooth Expertise: We are equipped to handle complex impactions, saving you a trip to an outside surgeon in many cases.

  • PRP/PRF Therapy: We can utilize your body’s own growth factors (drawn from a small blood sample) to accelerate healing and reduce dry socket risk.

  • Immediate Replacement: In many cases, we can place a dental implant or a temporary bridge on the same day, so you never have to go without a tooth.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does it hurt?
You will feel pressure, but you should never feel sharp pain. We test your numbness thoroughly before beginning. If you are anxious, our sedation options can make the procedure virtually memory-free.

  • Do I really need my wisdom teeth out?
Not everyone does. However, if they are impacted (stuck), hard to clean, or causing gum inflammation (pericoronitis), leaving them in can lead to cysts or damage to healthy neighbors. We evaluate this on a case-by-case basis.

  • How long is the recovery?
For simple extractions, 1-2 days. For surgical wisdom teeth, you may need 3-5 days of rest. Swelling is normal, but severe pain is not.

  • What is a "Dry Socket"?
This occurs if the blood clot dislodges from the socket too early, exposing the bone. To prevent this, we provide strict instructions: no smoking, no straws, and no vigorous spitting for at least 72 hours.
